750,341. Radiation thickness gauge. EXATEST GES. FUR MESSTECHNIK. Aug. 21, 1953 [Aug. 21, 1952], No. 23173/53. Class 40(3). In apparatus in which a pencil of rays measures the thickness of a moving strip, a member controlled by the passage of the strip operates a switch to introduce the gauge plate into the beam when the strip ceases. As shown, the strip 7 under test interrupts an air or other fluid blast 8 which in its absence impinges on an end plate of a pivoted lever 1. The lever rotates until it reaches a stop 10 and actuates a tilting mercury switch member 3 to insert the gauge plate into the beam. When the strip is again inserted, the lever rocks back to stop 11 under gravity, switch 3 operating means to withdraw the gauge plate. In a further arrangement (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), the end of the lever is rocked directly by the strip, there being no necessity for the fluid blast. Specification 699,000 is referred to.
