Class 61 A crimping tool, for pressure forming an electrical connector about a conductor by closing a pair of die surfaces towards one another with the connector therebetween, is provided with a device which is resiliently urged in a direction from one die surface to the other and which, by cooperating with locating means, such as a depression, in the connector serves to position the connector during the crimping operation. In the construction shown, a slide 24 with die surfaces 26, 28 is mounted in a C-shaped head 22 and moves towards or away from fixed dies 30, 32, upon the manipulation of handles 34, 36. A series of holes 46a, 46b. 46c and a pin 44 permit the adjustment of die 26 with respect to the slide. Upon the head 22 are mounted a sliding bracket 48 and a pivoting bracket 58 provided respectively with means for locating the electrical oonnectors 62, 82 shown in Figs. 8 and 9. To crimp the connector 82 the bracket 48 is first moved upwardly against the action of a spring protected by a cover 74 and the bracket 58 swung aside to the position shown in Fig. 5. The connector 82 is then inserted between the dies and the bracket 58 re- leased so that a blade part 54 thereof fits into an indentation 84 of the connector to locate the latter in the correct position. The handles 34, 36, which are fitted with a ratchet device 42 as disclosed in Specification 661,192 are then squeezed to grip the connector. One wire is then inserted in the connector with its bared end reaching the indentation and the handles squeezed further to effect the crimping operation. The other wire is crimped to the other end of the connector in a similar manner. For crimping wires to the connector shown in Fig. 8 the bracket 58 is rotated clockwise to a position where it supports the lifted bracket clear of the dies. An upstanding lip of the bracket 58 in this position then forms an abutment for the shoulder of the connector when the latter is placed in position. Figs. 17-25 (not shown) illustrate a latch having a pin engaging in a cam slot in the bracket 48 and serving to prevent the crimping operation when the connector of Fig. 9 is not properly located. In a modification (Figs. 10-16, not shown) a pair of locating devices, adapted to function in manner similar to that shown in Figs. 1, 5 and 6, are associated with jaws which pivot about axes on a link and which are pivotally connected to a pair of operating handles.
