Abstract

<PICT:0749916/III/1> Apparatus for supporting a bed of solids to be contacted with a fluid, e.g. a gas purifier in which a gas to be purified is contacted with a solid purifying material, comprising a vibrating grate as described in the parent Specification, has the grate arranged in conjunction with a container 1 for the solids to form an overlapping bottom closure therefor, the lower edge of the container having projections 7 which extend downwardly into the spaces between the slats 3 of the grate and are shaped to permit the required vibratory movement of the grate while preventing sideways leakage of solids past their edges. A casing 9 surrounds the overlapping portion of the grate and forms a gas-tight seal with the walls of the container 1 above the projections 7. Specification 749,915 also is referred to.
