An ash-tray com prises a hollow open topped outer part 11 Fig. 1, with an inner part 12 removable located therein so as to form a cavity therebetween, which cavity is divided intc channels for cigarette stubs by webs 13, 16 carried by at least one of the parts 11, 12, the cross-section of the channels being substantially larger at the upper ends than near the bottom ends. In Figs. 1 and 2 the webs 13 on the outer bowl 11 register with those 16 on the inner bowl 12 to form completely enclosed cigarette-extinguishing recesses. Cigarette rests are formed by depressions 20, 18 in the upper ring of both bowls 11, 12, an extension 19 of each depression 20 engaging a corresponding recess 21 and forming a locating means to ensure that the ribs 13, 16, are always directly opposite one another. In a modification, Fig. 4, the outer and inner bowls 11c, 12c, are formed with co-operating tapered webs 13c, 16c, which extend completely across the cavity at the top and bottom respectively and which are aligned by means of a lug 31 on the inner bowl engaging a recess 32 on the outer bowl. The webs 16c may be omitted. In a further modification the inner and outer bowls are each provided with partial webs extending completely across the cavity but only partially along the vertical dimension thereof, the webs on one bowl being directlv above the webs on the other bowl. The ash tray may be made of metal, glass, or plastic material.
