Abstract

749,637. Liquid-ring compressors. AMAG-HILPERT-PEGNITZHUTTE AKT.-GES. July 16, 1953, No. 19743/53. Class 110(1) In an arrangement for compressing gases and vapours, consisting of a number of liquid-ring compressors connected one behind the other in stages, which are filled with an auxiliary liquid which is inert in relation to the gases or vapours, a liquid separator is provided directly behind at least one of the stages for receiving the auxiliary liquid carried along by the gases or vapours, and a cooler is provided behind the separator. The liquid-ring compressor shown in Fig. 1 comprises three stages 1, 2, 3, with transfer chambers 4, 5 between them. The casing parts, including suction and delivery chambers 6, 7 are clamped together by tie bars. The chamber 4 may be divided by walls 21, 22, Fig. 3. into compartments 23 and 24 communicating through ports 28 and 25 with stages 1 and 2 respectively, in which case the gas passes from compartment 23 to compartment 24 by way of an intercooler or liquid separator (not shown) connected between connections 26 and 27. A liquid separator 32, followed by a cooler 34 for the gas, is provided at the compressor discharge, as shown in Fig. 4. The separated liquid is returned through pipe 40 to a reserve tank 41, from which the liquid is supplied through pipe 42 to the compressor inlet. The tank 41 can be refilled through pipe 43. Pipe 44 provides pressure equalization. Gas leaking past stuffing boxes 38, 38a is returned through piping 39 to the compressor inlet by way, it may be, of a liquid separator. Fig. 5 shows a liquid-ring compressor with liquid separators 52, 58 and intercoolers 54, 60 between the stages. The recovered liquid is passed through a pipe 64 to a tank 65. Liquid is supplied to the three stages 50, 56, 62 from respective tanks 66, 67, 68 through pipes 72, 73, 74. The tanks are maintained at the discharge pressure of the respective stages through pipes 69, 70, 71 and can be filled through a pipe 75. Venting valves 76, 77, 78 are provided. The pipes 69, 7U, 71 can be connected through three-way cocks to pipes 51, 57, 63 in order to bring the pressures of the tanks 66, 67, 68 to those of the corresponding stages 50, 56, 62.
