Abstract
749,119. Invalid chairs. METAL PRODUCTS (CARSHALTON), Ltd. June 3, 1954 [June 4, 1953], No. 15433/53. Class 108 (1). [Also in Group XXXIV] A laterally collapsible wheel chair which may be reduced in width by the occupant without his leaving the chair, comprises tubular side frames 4, vertically movable tubular seat supports 7 which telescope within the frames 4, a canvas seat 8, and footrests 24, and links 5 cross connecting the supports 7 and the frames 4. The seat supports 7 may be raised by a hydraulic piston 12 operated by a handle 11, so that as the seat and occupant rise the folding action of the links 5 pull the wheels inwardly and reduce the chair width. Arm rests 19, having depending fins 22 engaging guide lugs 21 to normally retain the arms upright, are mounted to slide backwards and fold downwards on a rod 20. The footrests 24 may be pivoted about forward extensions 25 by means of levers 26, 27, and guided thrust rods 28 actuated by handles 29 and assisted by springs. The chair may have cable-actuated brakes.
