Abstract

748,516. Toy aircraft. DAUWE, C. F. Aug. 26, 1953 [Sept. 17, 1952], No. 23576/53. Class 4. A toy glider towed by a cord has one wing 1 pivotally secured to a stub 2 on an axis X-X<SP>1</SP>, the hinge incorporating a torsion spring 4 which tends to move the wing downwardly against the action of a flexible tie 5 looped at 6 round the tip of the opposite wing. Before launching, the wing 1 is given an incidence greater than that of the opposite wing and when towed the glider can be caused to veer to the left or right dependent upon the strength of the pull applied to the towing cord. A slight pull will not alter the pre-set incidence of the wing 1 and the model will move to the left, whereas a stronger pull will cause the wing 1 to rise against the action of the spring 4 with a consequent decrease in its incidence, which will cause the glider to veer to the right.
