Abstract

747,504. Embossed pulp-board panels etc.; compound sheet materials. KEYES FIBRE CO. July 29, 1953, No. 21072/53. Classes 96 and 140. Heat and sound insulating panels, e.g. for doors, table tops, wall or ceiling coverings &c. are made from a moulded fibrous pulp ply 16 having embossments forming pockets in both surfaces, which may have their sides at an angle of 45 to 90 degrees with the plane of the panel, and one or both sets of pockets have flat end-faces 26 glued to a facing sheet or sheets 12, 14 of plywood, plastic, or hardboard, and may be strengthened by wooden strips 20 &c. The ply 16 may contain 5 to 25 per cent of phenol-formaldehyde, amine-phenolformaldehyde, amine -, urea -, or melamine-aldehyde, or alkyd resin, shellac or lignin. It may be made fireproof by inert fillers or by impregnation with a sulphamic acid or with ammonium phosphate. It may contain ground wood, chemical or semichemical pulp, glass, hemp, or asbestos fibres &c. The core may be of superposed plies.
