Abstract

747,251. Pit props. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE AKT.-GES. [formerly GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE OBERHAUSEN AKT.-GES.]..Dec. 31, 1951 [Jan. 9, 1951], No. 30476/51. Class 20(2). A hydraulic telescopic pit prop supports the mine roof by means of fluid in chamber 27 beneath the upper inner member 1 and also by means of a friction lining 4 on a resilient cup 5 forming an extension of the inner member and forced against the interior of the outer member 2 by the pressure in the chamber 27 which is supplied from chamber 28 in the inner member. The communication between chambers 27, 28 is controlled by valve 7, 9 operated by a rod 11 and an eccentric 21. The prop is set by wedge 23 and movable head 22. The ball valves 9 operated by a cone 18 on the rod 11 before valve 7 is opened make a preliminary connection between chambers 27, 28. A relief valve 8 is provided in the valve 7. In a modification the friction lining is forced outward by segments the top of which are engaged by the coned bottom of the inner prop member. The outer prop member may be protected by a covering of rubber tube part of which is shown at 25.
