Abstract

746,401. Bending glass sheets. FOLKES, G. E. (Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Co.). Jan. 16, 1954, No. 1340/54. Class 56 In an apparatus for bending glass sheets to a predetermined curvature wherein a plurality of inter-pivoted sections move from a comparatively straight-line open position to a concave closed position the sheet is initially supported, at its ends, on the top surfaces 69 of wing members 60 which project above the edges of the end sections of the mould. These wings arecarried by shafts 61 having cranked portions 63 which are connected by arched links 64 to a pivot on the central mould section 11 whereby as the' mould approaches fully closed position the surfaces 69 descend below the edges of the mould support whereby the sheet becomes deposited entirely on the mould sections and completely takes their shape. The pivot axes between the mould sections lie substantially in line with the shaping surfaces of the mould.
