Abstract
746,132. Bridges; latticework girders. BROMS, K; G. A., and LUDVIGSON, K. B. March 4, 1954 [March 12, 1953], No. 6352/54. Classes 20(1) and 20(2). A bridge supporting structure comprises two bottom booms 11, 13 and a third top boom 15 consisting of a number of members pivotally jointed to one another and having at least four struts 23 pivoted universally at each joint and connected at their other ends to the bottom booms. The lower booms are joined by cross bars 17 which carry the bridge flooring comprising triangular trussed beams 19 or common beams on which are laid boards or the like. The booms consist of a series of separate members extending between successive junctions with the struts. The members of the bottom booms 11, 13 are connected by junction plates 27. The members of top boom 15 are joined by connectors, which may be integral with one of the boom members, and which consist of a short cylindrical rods 33 whose ends are flattened and inserted between lugs 41, 43 on the ends of the boom members, e.g. 29, 31, where they are held by pins 45. Strut attachment hinges 35, 37 pivot on rod 33 and the struts from one bottom boom are fastened to hinge 35 and those from the other to hinge 37. These struts have forked ends 48 which fit over the hinges and are held by pins 50.
