Abstract
746,115. Hatch covers. TECHNIQUE INTEGRALE. Feb. 8, 1954 [Feb. 12, 1953], No. 3583/54. Class 113. In a hatch cover having several transverse sections ABCD, the first section A at one of the ends of the cover is connected via a nut 35 to a screw 33 driven through a speed reduction gear 25 by an electric motor 24 and has extension arms 40 pivoted to links 42 pivotally mounted at 43 on a wall 12 on the deck 1 between the hatch opening 3 and a house 2 whereby it is possible to pivot the section A from its horizontal closed-hatch position to its vertical openhatch position and vice versa, the extreme transverse edge of the section remaining constantly in a horizontal plane which substantially coincides with that containing the fixed support surfaces 7 provided for receiving the cover, and the sections are pivoted together by hinges a, b, c disposed alternately on one and then on the other side of the sections and are also connected in pairs AB, CD, by a cable or chain 50 fixed to two pulleys 48, 54 or engaging two sprockets fixed to sections A and C with a rod 58 between them so that the pairs AB, CD remain constantly and strictly parallel. Adjacent outer members 14, 15 (Fig. 15) of abutting sections comprise members 61, 62 which co-operate with sealing material 64 to ensure watertightness when the hatch is closed, the members 61, 62 having in the direction of their length a chevron shape, the apex angle of which is upwardly directed so as to allow water trapped between the sections to run away towards the ends of the sections.- The hatch opening is surrounded by a box-like structure (Fig. 6) comprising two vertical plates 4, 5 and a horizontal strip 6 carrying a member 7 for supporting the cover, which member has a rib 71 for engaging a sealing element 70 on the cover. The cover sections are provided with rollers 23 adapted to roll along the runway formed by the strip 6 and a continuation 14 thereof formed at the end of the hatchway. Each roller 23 is pivotally mounted on a lever 73 pivoted to its corresponding section; a spring 81 connects this lever to the section in such manner that the spring tends to raise the section relative to the roller, and a hook 84 is secured at 80<SP>1</SP> to the lever, said hook co-operating with a pulling member 85 mounted to pivot on a locking lever 87, whereby the pulling device may exert a downward pull to compress the spring and lower the section until an abutment 83 at the upper end of the hook member comes into contact with a member 82 on the cover section and the members 70, 71 are brought into sealing engagement. The sections may be locked in their closed position by means of the devices shown at 65, 68 in Figs. 1 and 3.
