Abstract

746,003. Rotary pumps. DENISON ENGINEERING CO. April 22, 1954 [April 30, 1953], No. 11680/54. Class 110(2) A pump of the outwardly-sliding vane type is provided with one inlet port and a number of independent discharge ports angularly spaced around the pumping chamber. The ports may be arranged in duplicate, diametrically opposite to each other, for balancing purposes, Fig. 1, or not in duplicate (Fig. 8, not shown). Fig. 1 shows an inlet port 24, and discharge ports 47, 48 on each side of the pumping chamber 28. Fluid is supplied from a reservoir 22 and line 23, and discharged through lines 53, 54 to a delivery 62, relief valves- 60, 61 regulating the discharge pressures in lines 57, 58 leading to the single delivery 62 in this case, so that the whole volume of fluid may be used to operate a single device at a relatively rapid rate under low pressure, then at a slower rate under a high pressure. The chamber 28 is built up of concentric curves 50, 51, 52 of different radii connected by smooth curves. Pressure fluid or springs may be used to force outwards the vanes 38 which may have forked tips 40 in contact with the casing box. The sides of the vanes may also be forked. In Fig. 7 the pump has three sets of outlet ports 64; 65; 66, being balanced diametrically by passages in the casing, and inlet ports 67 connected with a reservoir 76. The vanes are pressed outwards by fluid under pressure admitted to a groove 81 by way of a line 78 which is connected with each of the outlet lines 70, 71, 72, check valves 80 being arranged as shown to permit the highest pressure being generated by the pump to be supplied through the line 78. Independent hydraulic devices 74 may be actuated by the fluid streams from the pump under control of reversing valves 73 which control'the flow of fluid to and from the cylinders 74.
