[Also in Group XVII] In a container having a valve, either in the container top or in a screw plug closure, for evacuation of the container or admission of an inert gas, the valve consists of a housing 27 having a valve guide 28 the passage through which is controlled by a valve member 30 bedded on a seating 31 and urged by a spring 33 seated on an abutment 34 the upper end of the valve spindle 32 extending upwards through the guide 28. A screen 36 consisting of a pad of wire wool, fine mesh gauze or other material prevents contact of non-gaseous material with the valve.
