745,336. Testing brakes. SOC. ARCHIMEDE. Jan. 30, 1954, No. 2860/54. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XVIII] Portable apparatus for testing and filling hydraulic brake systems comprises an outer vessel 1 mounted on wheels 3 and adapted to be charged with compressed air or other fluidpressure medium at the pipe 16 through a valve 9, the pressure in the outer casing 1 being transmitted through pipe 47 and reducing valve 50 to the space above liquid in an inner container 30, the pressurized liquid being forced up through pipe 74, valves 73 and 98, and conduit 114 which is connected to the reservoir tank 118 of the brake system being charged. The valve 73 is of a 3-way cock form so that in one position it connects the space above the liquid 39 through pipe 90 to the conduit 114 so that the pressure in the container 30 may be used for a preliminary air pressure test for fluid tightness of the brake system. It is suggested that the volume of the outer tanks may be about 13 litres at a pressure of 4 kg/cm.<SP>2</SP> and of the inner tank 30, 6 litres at a pressure of 2.2 kg/cm.<SP>2</SP>, these quantities enabling the draining and testing of about 4-8 motor vehicles without recharge.
