Abstract

745,329. Posts. DEL CHIOCCA, B. Dec. 11, 1953 [Dec. 12, 1952], No. 34596/53. Class 20(1). A pole adapted for supporting a lamp or sign comprises a plurality of sheet members 1 assembled together to form a casing in which is a filling 3 of concrete, the longitudinal edges 2 of the members 1 being turned inwardly so that the adjacent edges 2 of adjoining members 1 form internal ribs which are embedded in and held together by the concrete 3. The members 1 may be flat, curved, or L-shaped, and may have longitudinal folds intermediate their edges to provide additional internal ribs. The members 1 may taper longitudinally and may be of metal or a synthetic resin. The edges 2 may be apertured to permit the concrete 3 to extend through the ribs, and are turned out at 7 to provide further hold on the concrete 3, which may be apertured longitudinally as at 4, e.g. to provide a conduit for electric leads. The cavity 4 may be formed by a core, e.g. of synthetic resin. The pole may be pre-constructed in the factory, or the members 1 may be temporarily held in erected position on the site, e.g. by flexible clamps, and the concrete cast in the casing so formed.
