Abstract

745,163. Cutting root vegetables. BROOKS, E. Aug. 18, 1954 [May 18, 1953], No. 13819/53. Class 5 (1). Vegetable roots are tipped from a pivoted oscillated platform 17 into a hopper 1 where small chippings are cut off by rotated cutters 11 arranged staggered around a rotor 3 co-operating with fixed cutters comprising slots in a grating 21. The roots may first be tipped to a second slotted cutting grating 23 pivoted up by hand lever 25 to right-hand dotted-line position to form a V-receptacle along with the side of the hopper 1. On raising the lever 25 the roots are tipped on to the fixed hinged grating 21 for cutting by the cutters 11 in co-operation with both gratings 21 and 23. Any undue pressure such as caused by stones pivot down the grating 21 and so compresses a spring 29 whereby a cap 33 operates a stop switch for the motor 7. Each cutter 11 is spaced angularly in advance of the previous cutter along the length of the rotor 3.
