Abstract

743,591. Stud and socket fasteners. CARR FASTENER CO., Ltd. Jan. 19, 1954 [Feb. 16, 1953], No. 4321/53. Class 44. A fastener for securing a member to a support 1 comprises one element 3 in the form of a tubular socket adapted to be positioned in an aperture 2 in the support, the socket including an imperforate peripheral wall closed at its inner end 4 and provided at its open outer end with an outwardly projecting flange 5 adapted to rest on the adjacent face of the support surrounding the aperture and a second element insertable into the socket and including means for engaging a member to be secured and yieldable portions 10 or 13 so constructed that upon being forced into the socket they press its peripheral wall outwardly into engagement with the edge of the aperture. The socket 3 is made of rubber or a plastic such as polythene and is a close or forced fit in the aperture 2 and seals the aperture so that moisture or dirt cannot penetrate. This second element can be of the press-button type as shown in Fig. 1 when a carpet 6 is to be secured to the support 1 by the insertion of the stud through an aperture in the carpet or as shown in Fig. 3 it can have legs 13 which are sprung apart in a more-or less common plane and with a U-shaped clip 12 to engage a panel or the edge of a carpet. In this case the leg 14 of the clip is bowed so that it presses on the flange 5 to increase the sealing action.
