Abstract
742,916. Pith-separation by agitation &c. of fibrous pulp. KOHORN, O. VON. Nov. 27, 1953, No. 33018/53. Class 96. , Broken or chopped sugar cane bagasse &c. is conveyed at 11 to a hopper 10 where e.g. 100 per cent of water is sprayed in at 12, a continuously metering outlet 13 supplying a decorticator 14 which reduces the fibre bundles without much reduction of the fibre-length, an outlet 16 discharging to a screw-conveyer 17 supplying a battery of pulping-engines 19, outlets 21 thereof discharging to screens 23, 24 respectively retaining the fibres and the pith, and outlets 20 below screens in the pulping- engines discharging to a pith-retaining screen 27, liquid being collected in trays 26 and 28, the latter having provision for re-circulating the liquid via a heater 30. The decorticator 14 may be a disc or other shredder ; and the pulpers 19 subject the pulp to violent agitation in water, e.g. at a temperature above 70‹ C. and which may contain a wetting agent &c., e.g. sulphonated oil, tall oil, polyethylene oxide or quaternary ammonium compounds.
