Abstract

742,799. Spring upholstery. CHADWICK, E. E. March 4, 1954 [Jan. 8, 1953], No. 592/53. Class 52(4). Sprung seats or backs of chairs &c. comprise corner frame members 6 which support a centrepiece consisting of an array of tension springs 5, 10, Fig. 1, by means of chains 7 which are drawn out of straight line formation by further ten sion spring 8 or 8 and 9. The chains may be replaced by cables, straps or links. As shown in Fig. 3, a single cable 72 at each corner is distorted by the springs 8, 9 into sinuous form. As shown in Fig. 4, the centrepiece is composed of tension springs 14, 15, 19 and boundary springs 20 are provided.
