742,632. Automatic frequency control systems. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. Nov. 13, 1953 [Nov. 15, 1952], No. 31571/53. Class 38 (4). A klystron oscillator is frequency modulated about the frequency at which it gives maximum power output and any deviations of this mean frequency is detected by deriving pulses I from a peak detector (not shown) at the instant of maximum output power during the frequency modulation and applying them to a shunt diode circuit Z3 to unblock a diode integrator circuit Z2, normally short circuited by the shunt circuit Z3, in series with which the modulation M is applied and whose output is thus the amplitude of the modulating voltage at the instant of maximum R.F, output from the klystron oscillator. This is compared with one half the maximum amplitude of modulation derived from applying the modulating voltage M also to a peak detector circuit Z1 having a potential divider output R1, R1 and the difference of the two amplitudes, after amplification in a stage Z4, is retroactively applied to the klystron reflector electrode to restore the correct mean frequency. The modulation M may be a linear saw-tooth wave and the oscillator used for frequency modulated radar or as a wobbulator.
