Abstract

A therapeutic composition comprises 1 part of erythromycin and 1/2 to 10 parts of one or more chemotherapeutic sulphonamides. Specified sulphonamides are sulphadiazine, sulphamethazine, sulphapyridine, sulphamerazine, sulphathiazole, sulphacetamide and sulphanilamide and their sodium or potassium salts. The erythromycin may be in the form of the base or acid addition salts such as hydrochloride, phosphate or oleate. Examples relate to (a) capsules containing erythromycin phosphate, sulphadiazine, sulphamerazine and lactose (b) tablets containing erythromycin, sulphamerazine, sulphamethazine, sulphadiazine, starch, magnesium stearate and sodium lauryl sulphate, coated with cellulose-acetate phthalate (c) a liquid mixture containing erythromycin oleate, sulphadiazine, glycerol, sodium lauryl sulphate, methyl cellulose and water. The compositions may also be used topically or by injection.
