Abstract

742,296. Making electric heating elements. TUTTLE & KIFT, Inc. May 14, 1953, No. 13555/53. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XI] Forging.-Electric heating elements having a metal sheath 10 enclosing one or more conductors 12,13, embedded in granular, refractory insulation 11, the elements being spiral shape in plan, have a flat heating surface 22 with convex lateral margins 24, a convex wall surface 25 diverging from the surface 25 to the surface 22. The heater is formed by eccentrically positioning resistances 12, 13 in the tube 10 which is temporarily blocked at one end and filled with insulation 11, the other end being then hermetically sealed or temporarily blocked. The tube 10 is then pressed in a die to square crosssection, formed into a flat spiral, and then pressed between dies 40, 41 to give it a crosssection such as shown in Fig. 4. The face 22 is identified by a notch to ensure that the resistances 12, 13 are finally against the heating surface 22.
