Abstract

741,532. Mixing appliances. UNION CARBIDE & CARBON CORPORATION. Oct. 28, 1953 [Dec. 3, 1952], No. 29839/53. Addition to 699,940. Class 86. [Also in Group V] Apparatus for milling and extruding plastics consists of a closed chamber 15, Fig. 2, of figureeight cross section formed by a pair of intersecting cylindrical bores 12, 14 in a housing 10, each bore containing one of a pair of intermeshing screw threaded rotors 22, 24, the rotors being driven' at different speeds and directions, the pitch or lead of the threads on the slower rotor 24 being a whole-number multiple of the pitch or lead of the threads on the faster rotor 22, the faster rotor being driven at that same multiple of the speed of the slower rotor. The material passes from an inlet 16, Fig. 1, to an outlet 17 which has an extrusion die 18. Passages 20 in the housing and bores 30, 32 in the rotors are provided for heating or cooling medium.
