[Also in Groups XVIII and XXII] A process for fixing decorative metal or other plates to furniture or shelving comprises forming an open fold 4 in a plate 3 and a slot 2 corresponding in form to the fold 4 in a plate 1 and placing the fold in the slot and forcing the edges of the fold into the sides of the slot. In an embodiment the edges 5, 6 of the fold may be forced into the sides of the slot by exerting pressure on the incurved end 7 of the fold, Fig. 1, or by inserting a tool in the fold comprising a handle 12, and a shaft 13 having diametrically opposed lateral projections 14 and 15 provided with cutting ridges. Rotary movement of the tool in the slot effects a slash in the edges of the fold and forces the lips of the slashes into the sides of the object as in Fig. 9. A decorative braid 61 may then be inserted into the fold. If it is not easy to effect a slot in the object an intermediate member 17, Fig. 11, provided with a slot may be fixed to the object in any known manner e.g. pinned. Also, the shape may have folded flanges 18 for receiving decorative strip material concealing the fold or a label or ticket as shown in Fig. 11.
