Abstract
740,701. Travelling-wave tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 6, 1952 [Nov. 9, 1951], No. 27983/52. Addition to 704,378. Class 39 (1). In a discharge tube of the general kind described and claimed in the parent Specification successive pairs of adjacent wires are shortcircuited near each end, the sum of the two lengths of each wire from the shorting members to the free ends of the wire being 0.1 to 0.3 times the total length - ofthe wire. The shortcircuiting members may be conductive strips 4, Fig. 2, bent into a rectangular waveform shape or conductive strips 8, Fig. 3, formed with rectangular slots along one edge. The relationships between the dimensions of the parts are discussed. The arrangement ensures that oscillations in adjacent wires are opposite in phase. The wires 3 are formed by winding wire on a conductive frame 1 and removing the wire portions on one side of the frame.
