A method of compensating for the difference between the theoretical and actual transfer characteristics of a filter or like 4-pole network due to self-capacitance of the inductive elements, consists in substituting a series resonant circuit for each capacitative element in the ideal form of the network, the additional inductor required to complete such resonant circuit being so chosen as to contribute an effect upon the transfer characteristics of the filter which differs from that contributed by the original capacitative element by an amount substantially equal and opposite to the effect of the self-capacitance over the range of frequencies to be passed by the filter. The transformation can be expressed as a substitution of the expression Ap/p<SP>2</SP> + B for p (= J#) in the formulae used in the calculation of the network. By suitable choice of the constants A and B it can be arranged that the characteristics of the resultant network differ only slightly from those of the original theoretical network. The substitution is also valid for additional sections included for line impedance matching.
