Abstract

740,330. Roller bearings. HARDY SPICER, Ltd. (Spicer Manufacturing Division of Dana Corporation). April 22, 1954, No. 11615/54. Class 12 (1). In a universal joint comprising driving and driven yokes 11 coupled together by a cruciform member 13, needle rollers 17 are retained in a cap-shaped outer race 22 by an annular retaining member 24 which is press fitted in the radially inner end of the outer race 22. Peripheral flats 29 on the ring 24 allow lubricant to reach a rubber seal 30, whereby leakage of lubricant past a flange 35 indicates complete lubrication of the bearing.
