[Also in Group XI] In a printing box 1 having a printing-platen 11 in one face and containing a light source and provided with a pressure plate 13 having a resilient facing pad 14, .a spring element 17 of wire or flat strip is provided along an edge or edges of the printing-platen to hold the photographic materials in position. As shown, box 1 is divided by a fixed screen 4 of opaque material or material opaque to actinic light and a screen 7 of similar alternative materials held by arms 8 pivotable about pivots 9, so that on depressing member 15 screen 7 is raised towards the lid 2 of the box. Actinic light from a source in chamber 5 is then incident on light-diffusing platen 11. Control member 15 may be so disposed that it is depressed by the pressure plate 13 as this reaches the end of its movement. The holes in the lid 2 through which the wire 17 passes are of somewhat larger diameter than the wire and the ends of the wire are secured by curving them round bushing 18. The whole box structure may be made of synthetic plastic material which transmits yellow to red light and provides a dark-room safelight.
