739,792. Potato &c. peelers. SOC. D'ETUDE ET D'EXPLOITATION CHIMIE ET MECANIQUE E.C.E.M. July 6, 1954 [July 8, 1953; June 14, 1954], No. 19750/54. Class 28 (2). Potatoes to be peeled are moved round against fixed and depending but yielding abrasive peeling surfaces 19 by a hand rotated abrasive bottom plate 13 fixed on a central spindle rotated by a crank handle 11 inside an abrasive perforated drum container 1-3. Holes 16 in 13 allow peelings and water to pass through to other holes 3a in the fixed bottom 3. Bent rods 22 on the rotated plate 13 assist in preventing jamming of the potatoes. Water is supplied through a guide-shaped opening in the cover, Fig. 9 (not shown). The stabbed peeling surfaces 19, Fig. 6, are mounted on pairs of wires 17 bent near their upper ends into loops 18 which yield to the push of the potatoes against and between the surfaces 19. The wires 17 are fixed in cross-bars 9 arranged swastika fashion, the ends of the cross-bars 9 being removably locked in clips 7 fixed on the inside of the container 1. The middle of the swastika comprises a square plate 10 providing a top bearing for the spindle. Instead of wires 17 flat yielding bars (Fig. 7, not shown), or flat digitated rubber bars may be used (Fig. 8, not shown). In another form (Fig. 9, not shown), the depending peelers are mounted on the cover hinged to swing up to allow charging of the container. In this case the depending peelers are mounted for handle rotation. The abrasive perforations on the fixed and moving parts are formed by stabbing but in another form, Fig. 11, a rubber plate 51 is held down by a plate 52 through the holes of which integral rubber bosses 55 project to receive stabbed abrasive domes 56 all constituting the fixed bottom of the container.
