Abstract

739,629. Stapling. SENCO PRODUCTS, Inc. Feb. 8, 1954 [March 30, 1953], No. 3664/54. Class 89 (3). In a pneumatically operated hand stapler, pistons 66, 31 are provided to move an anvil 82 up to a nose 26 from which a staple is to be ejected by a driver 37, and to operate the driver respectively. The driver is provided with a head 36 which engages loosely in a recess 35 in the piston 31 'under the action of a spring 39. Downward movement of the piston 31 is resisted by the spring 39 and air resistance controlled by an escape passage 34 and is limited by a resilient stop 32. The anvil 82 is pivoted at 85 on a magazine 25 and is provided with a forked upper arm 83 which is coupled by a wire bail 74, 78 with a rod connected to or loosely associated with the piston 66. Upward movement of the piston 66 against a spring 71 is limited by a resilient stop 70. The handle 21 is provided with inlet and outlet air passages 24, 48 and with a spring pressed valve 44, 45 operated by a pivoted lever 53. When the core is to be used as a tacker, the anvil is detached and the piston 66 and its housing 64 are replaced by a screwed cap.
