Abstract
739,542. Coke-oven doors. KOPPERS GES., H. April 12, 1954 [May 26, 1953], No. 10728/54. Class 55 (1). In a door handling machine for horizontal coke ovens, the door lifting claw levers 4, 5 and the latch operating mechanisms 47, are mounted on a carrier frame 6 which is mounted on the travelling crab 17, 23, 24 in such manner that, if distortion and sinking of the main trackway of the door handling machine would normally cause the carrier frame 6 to be inclined to the perpendicular, the frame may be restored to perpendicularity. This prevents damage to the door seal means when removing and applying the door. The travelling crab 17, 23, 24 is supported by wheels 18, 20 on tracks 19, 21 and is steadied at its lower part 24 by rollers which bear on a guide. The carrier 6 is pivoted at top and bottom in bearings which incorporate rocking ball or roller bearings, the necessary clearances being provided to permit the compensating adjustments of the carrier to be made without affecting the ability to pivot the frame around, with the door, after it has been withdrawn from the oven. These adjustments are made by arranging the bearings in the part 24 to be slidably adjustable both axially of the oven chamber and transversely thereto, the axial adjustment being effected by a screwed spindle 46 and the transverse adjustment by another spindle (not shown). The drive to the pivot shaft in the upper part 17 of the crab, is through a flexible coupling which effects an automatic uncoupling in the event of an overload. The claw 10 of the lower arm 5 is independently adjustable along the arm.
