Abstract
738,708. Stamping. SVENSKA PLATROR AKTIEBOLAG. Aug. 6, 1953 [Oct. 1, 1952], No. 21716/53. Class 83 (4). A joggling device for making sockets on pipes is characterized by having jaws which hear against the pipe end during joggling and are provided with recesses which together form an annular cylindrical matrix corresponding to the desired form of socket, means being provided for applying, during joggling, a pressure against the inner side of the pipe end for pressing the latter into the cylindrical matrix to form the sockets. A square support plate 3 provided with four T-shaped grooves, one starting from each side and directed inwards towards its centre, is secured to a base-plate 1 held fast on the work-table of an eccentric press. Four segmental jaws 5 are mounted with their base surfaces on the support-plate 3 by screws 6 the heads of which fit in the T-shaped grooves in the support-plate so that the jaws are movable radially from the centre of the supportplate. The external surface of the jaw assembly provides cylindrical parts 7, 9 and 11 of different diameters connected by chamfers 8 and 10. The jaws are pressed apart by springs 16a. Four segmental press jaws 14 are locked fast in T-shaped grooves 12 in the jaws 5 by screws 15 having eccentric heads. The inside of the press jaw assembly nearest the support-plate has an annular recess 16. Around the outside of the jaws 5 is mounted a ring 18 carrying in lugs 19 four bolts 20 which pass through the support-plate 3 and between which is mounted a vertically movable slide 21 secured to the work slide of the press. The lower edge of the slide 21 has an inclined sliding surface 23. Secured to the free ends of the bolts 20 is a plate 24 provided with two shoulders 26 which have sliding surfaces 27 co-operating with the sliding surface 23 of the slide 21. Screwed into the support-plate are two bolts 28 which pass through the slide 21 and through holes in the plate 24. Plates 30 provided with control pins 31 which slide through the plate 24, are secured to the bolts 28. Surrounding the bolts and control pins are springs 59 which press the plate 24 together with the shoulders 26 against the slide 21 so that upward and downward movement of the latter imparts a reciprocatory movement to the plate 24 &c. and a radial reciprocatory movement to the press jaws 14 and jaws 5. Movement of the ring 18 is limited by distance tubes 63 threaded on the bolts 28. A draw-bar 34 projecting through the slide 21 and the support-plate 3 carries a slide shoe 38 which is spring-loaded against the slide by means of springs 41 and bolts 42 screwed in the support plate. The inclined surfaces 39 and 27 of the slide shoe 38 and shoulders 26 respectively are so formed that the slide 21 first presses the shoulders 26 out from the supportplate and only when each shoulder has reached its outer limit does it encounter the slide shoe 38 and press it out from the support plate. A stop 43 on the bolts 42 limits the inward movement of the slide shoe. In the side of the supportplate remote from the slide 21 is a bevelled ring 46 surrounding the draw-bar 34 and on the end of the draw-bar is a similar ring 49 whose bevelled portion faces the bevelled portion of the ring 46. Mounted between the rings are four slide jaws 50 having inclined base surfaces 51, said jaws being pressed inwardly against the rings by two springs 52. Around the slide jaws 50 and secured in grooves 53 therein are press jaws 54 the outer surface of which have a shoulder 55 for pressing against the inside of a pipe end inserted between the press jaws 54 and 14. The ring 18 is guided by pins 58 which slide in holes 57 in the support plate. In another embodiment the bevelled ring 49 is replaced by a plane flange 60, the bevelled ring 46 is omitted and the slide jaws 50 and press jaws 54 replaced by a cylindrical rubber sleeve 61 which on operation of the draw-bar is caused to expand radially to form the pipe socket.
