Abstract

That part of a metal article that is to be embedded in thermosetting synthetic resin during moulding is coated with polyisobutene, to prevent formation of cracks in the resin near the metal. The polyisobutene may be less than 0.5 mm. thick. In an example a part of an apparatus for generating X-rays is made by dipping a copper rod into a petrol solution of polyisobutene, evaporating the solvent to leave a coating 0.16 mm. thick, and embedding the coated part in a thermosetting synthetic resin-mica composition by moulding.
