353,911. Coating with rubber ; extrusion-machines. ELECTRICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS, Inc., 195, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Cox, T. K. ; 5412, Ferdinand Street, Chicago, U.S.A.) April 29, 1930, No. 13235. Convention date, June 8, 1929. [Classes 70 and 87 (ii).] A method of ensuring the adhesion of a coating material such as an insulating material to a body especially a metallic body such as an electrical conductor consists in subjecting the body to the action of an organic acid such as oleic, stearic, palmitic, acetic or formic acid, to form a layer of salt thereon which is soluble in the coating material, and subsequently applying the coating material to the body. The organic acid is contained in a container 18 positioned upon an extrusion head 10. The wire 15 passes through the sponge 24 saturated with acid, and then into the nozzle 14 to receive a coating of insulating material. The nozzle has fitted at its receiving end a gland 26 to remove excess of acid which drips into a basin 20. The coating may be subsequently vulcanized.
