Abstract
737,669. Friction clutches. INSTAPRINT CAMERA CO., Ltd., and PEACOCK, W. F. Aug. 28, 1953 [Aug. 28, 1952], No. 21647/52. Class 80 (2). A clutch between the driving motor and the cylindrical shutter 19 of a photographic timerecording camera for use in timing races comprises a helical coil spring 4 embracing cylindrical parts of the driving and driven members, one end 5 of the spring being anchored to the driven member by a screw 6 while the other end has an out-turned projection 7 co-operating with the inturned end 8 of one arm of a lever 22, the other arm of which forms the armature of an electromagnet 25. The magnet 25 is energized automatically by closing of a switch at the start of a race, so as to move the end 8 of the lever, away from the projection 7 and allow the spring 4 to contract, while after the end of the race the lever is moved in the opposite direction, to allow the end 8 of the lever to engage the projection 7 and thus expand the spring 4, by manual pressure on a spring- loaded plunger 27 co-operating with a projection 26 on the lever 22, the latter being then retained frictionally by a blade spring 30. A disc 31 secured to the driven member has a peripheral recess 33 terminating in a radial slot 34, so that the end 8 of the lever cannot be moved inwardly until it is in register with the recess 33, the driven member being finally locked against rotation when the end 8 enters the slot 34.
