Abstract

The invention comprises diacyl hydrazides of the formula <FORM:0737639/IV (b)/1> wherein R is an aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or heterocyclic acyl radical. The compounds are prepared by reacting, preferably in pyridine at elevated temperature, a compound of the formula R1-NH-NH2 with an acid halide or anhydride of the formula R11-hal and R11-O-R11 respectively, one of R1 and R11 being the 2-methyl-isonicotinic acid radical and the other being an aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or heterocyclic acyl radical. Examples are given of the preparation of (1) N1-(2-methyl-isonicotinyl) - N2 - palmitoyl, lauroyl and 10-undecenoyl hydrazines from 2-methyl-isonicotinyl hydrazide and palmitoyl-, lauroyl- and 10-undecenoyl-chloride respectively; (2) N1-(2-methylisonicotinyl) - N2 - (1 - methyl - cyclohexane - (1) - carbonyl) - hydrazine in a similar manner to example (1); (3) N1-(2-methyl-isonicotinyl) - N2 - benzoyl hydrazine from 2-methyl - isonicotinyl hydrazide and benzoic anhydride and from benzoyl chloride; (4) N1-(2 - methyl - isonicotinyl) - N2 - (p - chlorobenzoyl) - hydrazine as in (1); (5) N1 - (2-methyl - isonicotinyl) - N2 - (furane - (2) - carbonyl] - hydrazine as in (1); (6) N1 - (2-methyl - isonicotinyl) - N2 - nicotinyl and isonicotinyl hydrazines as in (1) using the hydrochloride salts of the acid chlorides; (7) N1,N1-bis - (2 - methyl - isonicotinyl) - hydrazine in a similar manner to (6). Also mentioned as acyl radicals represented by R in the above formula are 2-methoxy- and 2-ethoxy-isonicotinyl.
