Each of a plurality of internally drained inward flow filter cells (only one of which is shown) stacked in parallel round a central drainage element K comprises two annular discs a, b of filter material, e.g. paper sealed together at their outer edges, e.g. by crimping and held spaced apart by burrs s formed by piercing holes in an annular metal disc r. In a modification the filter discs are spaced by a pair of pierced metal discs assembled with the burred sides facing each other but with the burrs out of register; while the smooth sides of the discs support the filter discs.
