Abstract

736,527. Linkwork. DE VLIEG CORPORATION. Feb. 9, 1953, No. 3602/53. Class 80 (3). A tripping mechanism particularly for operating the plunger 90 of a switch 87, Fig. 11, comprises a tripping lever 15 secured to a shaft 30 having a driving member 40 with a tooth 41 thereon co-operating with a driven member 57 with a tooth 58 on a shaft 43. The shaft 43 carries an actuating lever 53 with a contacting head 86 for engaging the switch plunger 90. The lever 15 and member 40 are biased by an overcentre spring 76a and the member 57 and lever 53 are acted upon by a spring 76 which acts in opposition to spring 76a to keep the parts in the position shown. A cam member 42 with cam surfaces 91, 92 is also mounted upon shaft 30 and co-operates with a roller 60 on the actuating lever 53. On the tripping lever 15 being engaged by an abutment to move it in a clockwise direction driving member 40 engages driven member 57 to pivot the latter and the actuating member 53 counter-clockwise to release the switch plunger 90. On continued movement of lever 15 the members 40 and 57 disengage but member 57 is prevented from return movement under its spring 76 by the cam surface 92 engaging roller 60 on lever 53. The lever 15 is maintained in its operated position by the spring 76a but on return movement thereof the cam surface 92 passes over roller 60 and finally releases the lever 53 to be restored by spring 76 to its original position. If the tripping lever 15 is moved counter-clockwise from the position shown, the spring 76a acts to retain it in such position without effecting any operation of lever 53. A further lever 48 secured to the shaft 43 is adapted to operate a dial gauge 63 for accurately positioning, for example, a tool or work slide of a boring or milling machine, the switch 87 being used to control approach and feed motor circuits.
