Abstract
The starch content of protein-deficient raw fodder is increased by forming it into a mass deprived of oxygen, acidifying the mass to a pH value of about 5 and then ensiling it. Steamed potatoes may be pulped and acidified simultaneously and then stored in a sealed silo. Half-ripe maize cobs, stripped of their bracts but not of their axes, may be bruised or compacted and acidified simultaneously and then ensiled in sealed tubes of synthetic resin.
