Abstract

575,262. Storing crops. JESSOP, J. A., and MORLEY, J. W. Nov. 8, 1943, No. 18554. [Classes 5 (i) and 5 (ii)] Ensilage is produced by adding a culture of the pure bacteria of the lactic acid ferment as the green fodder is fed into the silo. The culture is dried into powdered form and sprayed or mixed with water, molasses, milk sugar, malt sugar, whey or skim milk. It may be mixed, for storage and transport, with such powders as fat-free milk powder, starch or cereal flour. The culture may be spray or drum dried, at a temperature of 40‹-50‹C., and under reduced pressure.
