Abstract

736,005. Sawtooth generating circuits. MURPHY RADIO, Ltd. Feb. 2, 1953 [Feb. 2, 1952], No. 2845/52. Class 40 (6). In a sawtooth generator in which during the long flank the output valve receives a rectangular input wave on its grid and is of low impedance, a voltage is injected into an additional impedance in the circuit of the output transformer and deflection coils to linearize the scan. The circuit shown is of the damping diode type with a boost capacitor and includes a pentode output valve operated in the low impedance condition below the knee of the anode voltage/anode current characteristic. Non linearity of the scanning stroke due to the resistance of the anode circuit is prevented by injecting a voltage from an additional transformer winding through a resistance 6 into an inductance 5 in series with the scanning coils. The resistance and inductance may be interchanged if the polarity of the voltage from the winding 7 is reversed. In Figs. 2, 3 and 11 are the conventional ganged inductances used to vary the amplitude of the scan without varying the inductive load on the output valve, and a resistance 12 is added to shape the voltage induced in inductance 8 to linearize the scan. Alternatively winding 7 may provide a compensating voltage in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1 and also supply the voltage for amplitude adjusting inductor 11 of Fig. 2.
