Abstract

A preparation for the care of the teeth and mouth comprises as an essential non-abrasive polishing and detergent ingredient, a surface active compound of ortho phosphoric acid and active compound of ortho phosphoric acid and/or a surface active derivative of a phosphoric acid. The pH may be adjusted to between 5 and 7. Optional ingredients are (a) abrasives such as chalk, talcum, magnesium carbonate, bole and finely divided silica; (b) agents for removing tartar such as lactic acid, benzyl alcohol and sodium benzoate; (c) flavours and sweetening agents, e.g. oil of rosemary and menthol; (d) adjuvants such as ethyl alcohol, glycerol and methyl salicylate. Among the surface active compounds of o-phosphoric acids are the free ester acids and also the alkali metal, ammonium and alkylol amine salts of o-phosphoric acid esters with (a) fatty alcohols containing at least 6 carbon atoms; (b) such alcohols in the form of their ether-like products of reaction with ethylene oxide; (c) esters of fatty acids with glycol, polyethylene glycol, glycerine and polyglycerine; and (a) esters containing aromatic, hydroaromatic, aliphatic aromatic or heterocyclic radicals.
