Abstract
734,425. X-ray apparatus. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Oct. 16, 1953 [Oct. 16, 1952], No. 26007/52. Class 98 (1). [Also in Group XL (a)] The electron beam 8 of an X-ray tube is arranged to sweep over an annular sloping target 13, the resulting X-rays being directed as a sheet through a narrow slit towards the central axis of the target. The circular path in which the beam strikes the target is represented by the circle fff in Fig. 2. A specimen I undergoing diffraction analysis is placed at the centre L of this circle, adjacent to a fixed collimator J and radiation detector K. The X-ray beam Hc passing through L sweeps round the target, and each time it strikes the specimen I at the appropriate angle for the diffracted beam to pass into the collimator, the detector K registers a signal; a reference signal is also registered at zero diffracting angle, when the beam Hc becomes collinear with the collimator J. The specimen, detector, and associated equipment is housed in a re-entrant part of the tube envelope, which part has a further extension 11.
