Abstract

734,407. Wrapping butter &c. BRECKNELL, MUNRO & ROGERS, Ltd., and LAWSON, C. W. Oct. 31, 1952 [Oct. 31, 1951; June 24, 1952], Nos. 25406/51 and 15861/52. Class 94 (1). [Also in Groups V and VIII] Plastic material, e.g. butter, is fed through a nozzle 14 into a mould chamber 8 in an oscillating sector plate 1 (see Group V). The chamber is removable to allow different sizes of blocks to be formed. When the chamber is in a vertical position, a piston 10 is raised to eject the moulded block into an open-ended wrapping pocket 102. Prior to the ejection of the block, wrapping paper 200. Fig. 15, is drawn from a roll by rollers 203, 204 and a length is cut off by a movable knife 201 and positioned under the pocket on a platform 154 (see Fig. 12, not shown). The lengths of paper cut may be adjusted by a screw 214 which controls the movement of the roller 204. The jaws 106, 110 of the pocket are opened slightly by movement of an arm 108 to receive the block and the entrained wrapper. The sector plate is then moved back; the piston 10 wiping across the under face of the block. As the plate 1 commences its return movement, a wrapping member 126 is moved by a cam 132 to pass under the block and fold the rear of the wrapper against. the block. An arcuate plate 135 is then swung by means of a cam (not shown) on cam shaft 162 to bring its rear edge slightly beyond the front edge of the pocket to commence the folding of the front of the wrapper and to support the block when the piston is completely removed. The folding of the front of the wrapper is completed by swinging the pocket carrier 103 about a shaft 115 to cause the pocket to sweep over the plate 135. The projecting ends of the wrapper are then folded in at the rear end of the pocket by wings 137 on a swinging support 139 which is swung by a cam at a faster rate than the pocket so that the wings overtake the pocket and perform the rear folding operation. The undersides of the ends of the wrapper are then folded 'in during a dwell in the movement of the pocket by fingers 148, Fig. 11, which are moved inwardly by a cam 153. The folding of the wrapper is then completed by engagement with fixed deflector plates 155, 156, Fig. 9, which are adjustable laterally. Prior to ejection of the wrapped block, it is subjected to a consolidating pressure by a plate 167, Fig. 12A, operated by a cam 171. The pocket is detachably secured by a pin 114, Fig. 6, to the carrier 103, to allow it to be changed to match the particular mould chamber in use. Specification 672,742 is referred to.
