Abstract
734,384. Surgical injection devices. KURKJIAN, Y. H. May 6, 1953, No. 12666/53. Class 81 (2). An injection device comprises a casing having an open-ended medicament chamber 11 with a seat 17 at one end, a plunger head 21 slidable in the chamber 11 for ejecting medicament and carried by a plunger rod 20 slidably mounted in the casing and protruding beyond one end of the casing, an abutment member engageable with said plunger rod 20 and said chamber 11 for pulling the plunger rod 20 and head 21 towards the seat 17 and locking the plunger head 21 in airtight engagement with the seat 17 to seal one end of the casing a closure sealing means being provided at the open end of the casing. The plunger seat 17 is provided with a resilient washer 18 and is formed at the junction of the medicament chamber 11 with a hollow shank 12 for the passage of the plunger rod 20. A knob 22 is used for pulling the plunger rod 20 and head 21 so that the plunger head 21 engages with the washer 18 and makes an airtight seal. The plunger rod 20 is locked with the plunger head 21 in sealing position by means of a threaded nut 24 which abuts the rear end of the shank 12 and which engages with a screw-thread 23 on the plunger rod 21. A snap closure cap 14 is provided at the open end of the medicament chamber 11. The washer 18 may be omitted in which case the casing and plunger seat are formed of resilient material. With a resilient washer 18 the plunger is made of rigid material. Alternatively the washer may be rigid and the plunger resilient.
