Abstract

733,176. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 25, 1952 [July 28, 1951], No. 18858/52. Class 39 (1). Between the accelerating electrode and the collecting electrode 1 of a cathode-ray tube are located two grids 2, 3 athwart the electron stream, the spaces of the one grid in line with the solid parts of the other, and the variable positive potentials on the grids which are less than the positive potential of the collecting electrode give convergent beams shifting the point of electron impact in the plane of the collecting electrode. Figs. 2 and 3 show two different positions for coincident focal lines. In Fig. 4 the control voltage is raised so that the beams cross one another. The arrangement is applied in an amplifier tube with a plurality of parallel strip electrodes, the alternate ones of which are connected together and to one end of an output transformer. Oscillations may be generated by coupling the output electrodes to one or both grids. The collecting electrode may be a luminescent screen in dots or continuous lines, the electron beam scanning the face of the grids.
