733,056. Optical apparatus. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. May 30, 1952 [April 30, 1952], No. 18467/54. Divided out of 731,539. Class 97 (1). [Also in Group XIX] Apparatus for inspecting fuel injectors for internal combustion engines comprises a sleeve 20 which receives the injector 1 and is rigid with a casing 18 angularly adjustable in a cup 23, one or more spring-loaded lugs 28 carried by the casing co-operating with appropriately positioned recesses in the cup, a frame 25 in which the cup itself is axially and angularly adjustable, a light source 34 illuminating the interior of the injector and, for examining the apertures 4 in the injector, an optical viewing device 38, the axis of which is in a plane passing through the axis of the sleeve and which is adjustable in this plane. The device 38 comprises lenses 39 and an eye-piece 40 enabling an enlarged image of the apertures 4 to be seen together with a transparent crosslined plate 41. The injector is clamped in the sleeve 20 by a nut 19, and the casing 18 is held in the cup 23 by a spring 27. The cup 23 is screwed into a support 30, a locking nut 33 being provided. The support 30 is rotatable on the frame 25 and may be clamped thereto by screws 32. The lamp 34 is mounted on a hinged plate 35. A scale associated with the body of the microscope allows the inclination error of an aperture 4 to be observed whilst any errors in the angular spacing of the apertures and their longitudinal positioning may be determined by rotating the injector and moving it axially.
