Abstract

732,914. Photographic exposure meters. SANGAMO WESTON, Ltd. April 15, 1953 [April 16, 1952], No. 9592/52. Class 98 (1). [Also in Group XL (b)] An incident light photographic exposure meter having a translucent screen shaped convex at the front to receive on its outer surface light falling on the front and sides of the subject, a light-sensitive element illuminated by light issuing from the back of said screen and light-indicating means operated by said element is provided with auxiliary rearwardly facing means for receiving light coming from behind the meter the screen reflecting it to the lightsensitive element thereby taking account of the back lighting of the subject. As shown, the photo-cell 21 connected to a measuring device 17 and provided with a covering translucent hemisphere 16a of larger diameter than the cell and extending beyond the meter casing 19 so that rear light passes through a transparent window 20 closing the segmental opening of the hemisphere. Alternatively the photo-cell is covered by a major translucent segment of a sphere or of an oblate spheroid. In one form using a major segment of a sphere, only the forward-facing hemisphere is translucent and the rear segment is transparent, the photo-cell being disposed in the dividing plane of the portions. In a further embodiment in which the photo-cell is disposed beyond the body of the measuring instrument on an extension of the rear wall, the cell is covered by a translucent hemisphere and is of annular form so that rear light may pass through a window concentric with the cell on to the rear of the hemisphere.
