Abstract
732,826. Prestressed concrete. PRELOAD CO., Inc. May 13, 1953 [May 14, 1952], No. 13361/53. Class 20 (4). [Also in Group V] In a method of moulding prestressed concrete articles, particularly pipes (see Group V), the forces of the tensioned wires forming the reinforcement are transferred to the moulded concrete only after it has cured and hardened. In the case of a pipe, Fig. 1, concrete 105 is built up round a cylinder 20 and embeds tensioned longitudinal wires 100, and is cured by allowing it to set and harden. Tensioned circumferential wire 106 is then wound on the hardened concrete throughout its length, and a covercoat 107 of concrete is applied over the wire 106 and cured by allowing it to set and harden. The forces due to the tensioned wires are then transferred from the moulding apparatus to the concrete by contracting the cylinder 20.
